If you would like to learn more about Greece than just the language, I can offer seminars or private lessons on a series of cultural subjects. My special field of expertise is Modern Greek literature and poetry but I can also arrange seminars and/or talks about history, film, music etc. As a scholar on Modern Greek literature, I have written extensively especially on poetry and the cultural politics of the modern era. I have also spoken at several international conferences on Greek surrealism and modernism. I am an expert on the Greek-American surrealist poet and art critic Nicolas Calas who has been the subject of most of my scholarly work and research since 2001. For the past many summers I have taught a course in Greek culture, history and literature, parallel with Modern Greek language, at the Norwegian Institute at Athens. Through this work I have come to realize the need for language students to learn more about the Greek society and culture in which they spend these two intense summer months. If you are coming to Greece for studies, work or to live here permanently – don’t underestimate the importance of understanding how the Greeks live and operate in society. This is also why I arrange special seminars, discussion groups and talks on different cultural subjects.
